Union Pacific exceeded its previous first-quarter grain volume record from 2008, driven by strong international demand for U.S. feed grain shipments to West Coast and Mexican markets. The carrier achieved the milestone amid a 14% increase in corn production following farmers' record 2025 harvest. UP's grain shuttle velocity averaged 334 miles per day during the quarter. The railroad attributed performance gains to new covered hopper cars carrying an additional 2,500 pounds of grain while occupying less track space. A revised crew change procedure at the Eagle Pass international border crossing also contributed to gains. The procedure allows Mexican partner crews to interchange with U.S. operators seven miles into UP's yard rather than on the international bridge. The streamlined border process reduces transit times and increases handling capacity, benefiting both the carrier and its customers.
