More than 3,200 Mexican truck drivers have lost their US entry authorization in recent months as federal authorities crack down on cabotage violations and visa compliance. Pedro Lozano Martínez, president of the Nuevo Laredo Freight Carriers Association, confirmed the widespread revocations across the border region. The surge in enforcement follows the integration of US Department of Transportation and US Customs and Border Protection systems, which now automatically flag drivers previously cited for potential cabotage infractions. Many drivers remain unaware their visas have been cancelled until attempting to cross at the border. Previously, DOT inspectors could issue administrative warnings during roadside checks without triggering immigration consequences. The coordinated approach now directly links transportation violations to visa status, affecting carriers operating through major commercial gateways.
