Wholesale inflation accelerated in April, marking the fastest pace since 2022 as energy costs climbed significantly. The producer price index rose 6% year-over-year, while the core measure excluding food and energy increased 5.2% from April 2025, the largest advance in more than three years. Energy prices are translating into higher freight transportation costs for shippers. Consumer-level inflation also quickened during the month, with gasoline and grocery prices climbing.
