The Department of Transportation has signed a contract with FreightWaves SONAR to supply high-frequency freight market data supporting federal analysis and economic research. The agreement will enhance USDOT's capacity to monitor freight health, enforce regulations, and deliver insights to the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology. SONAR's datasets cover truckload, intermodal, ocean, and air cargo activity across the nation. The contract reflects USDOT's priority to strengthen oversight of transportation and supply chain networks, with emphasis on safety, security, and resilience of freight movement. Deputy Assistant Secretary Lee White said the partnership advances the department's modernization of its Bureau of Transportation Statistics. SONAR's platform captures daily freight market activity at the point of booking and procurement, providing earlier visibility into shifts in transportation demand, network utilization, and capacity conditions.
