A postal worker was arrested July 23 after authorities determined she intercepted and redeemed a winning Pick 4 lottery ticket that never reached its intended destination. Lekaysha Lockhart, a USPS letter carrier, allegedly stole the ticket and cashed the prize at the Florida Lottery's Miami District Office on June 19. The investigation began when the ticket's owner reported the missing entry. Florida Lottery Special Agents coordinated with USPS Office of Inspector General investigators to trace the transaction to Lockhart, who confessed to both the theft and redemption upon arrest. Lockhart faces six charges including grand theft, dealing in stolen property, filing a false claim for payment, mail theft, and two counts involving a two-way communications device. These charges span multiple judicial circuits. The case underscores security measures protecting lottery prizes, with over $110 billion distributed since 1988.
