The U.S. Postal Service increased Forever stamp prices by 4 cents to 82 cents Sunday, with domestic postcards rising to 65 cents as the agency battles a $31 billion debt load. The Regulatory Commission approved the hike announced in April. The Postal Service has reported $120 billion in cumulative net losses since 2007. It faces a liquidity crisis by 2031, driven by declining mail volumes and rising operational costs. Postmaster General David Steiner said Congress must remove outdated restrictions preventing structural reforms. The agency has temporarily suspended employer retirement contributions and consolidated network operations to delay service cuts. Steiner believes Americans would accept rates up to 95 cents per letter, still cheaper than most developed nations. Consumer advocacy group Keep US Posted opposes the increase, noting stamp prices have risen 44% over 15 years and calling for annual rate caps tied to inflation.
