Volvo Autonomous Solutions has launched commercial autonomous freight operations with AVI-SPL on a route connecting Dallas and Houston. This partnership marks progress toward the company's goal of fully driverless trucking in the United States. The partnership will transport high-value audio-visual electronics and equipment destined for recycling and precious metals recovery. A safety driver will remain aboard the vehicle during initial operations while the company completes its safety validation process. Sasko Cuklev, head of on-road solutions at Volvo Autonomous Solutions, said the collaboration demonstrates how autonomous transport reduces transit times and improves service for time-sensitive shipments. The Dallas-Houston route represents an expansion of the companies' Texas operations, following a 200-mile corridor launched in May between Dallas and Oklahoma City.
