Volvo Trucks unveiled its redesigned 13-liter D13 engine platform, engineered to meet 2027 EPA emissions standards while maintaining power output and operational reliability. The engine reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 83 percent compared to current models.

The Swedish manufacturer developed the new combustion platform in-house following a multi-billion SEK investment in powertrain technology. Both variants of the 13-liter engine deliver improved fuel efficiency and compatibility with renewable diesel and gas applications, including future hydrogen readiness.

The launch represents a significant step in Volvo's decarbonization strategy, positioning the company to strengthen its competitive standing in global markets. The engines support carrier efforts to reduce fleet-wide CO2 emissions while maintaining performance standards essential for long-haul operations.
