Volvo Autonomous Solutions and Waabi commenced their first commercial freight operation Monday, transporting shipments for Warp along the Dallas-Houston corridor using Volvo VNL Autonomous trucks equipped with Waabi Driver technology. An observer remains in the driver's seat during operations. Warp consolidates less-than-truckload and full-truckload services into a single network and counts Walmart, DoorDash, and Gopuff among its customers. The partnership targets efficiency gains in LTL consolidation networks without requiring coast-to-coast team driving configurations. Federal hours-of-service rules limit drivers to 11 hours daily, presenting operational constraints that autonomous systems could address. Waabi originally developed its software on Peterbilt 579 test vehicles and transferred it to the Volvo platform this summer without retraining. The autonomous truck includes redundancies across six safety-critical systems.
