Waabi has successfully transferred its autonomous driving software from a Peterbilt 579 to a Volvo VNL without retraining. The Volvo VNL completed highway and surface street routes on its first deployment with Waabi Driver software, handling lane changes, traffic signals, turns and intersections. The achievement eliminates engineering work that traditionally requires more than a year to adapt autonomous systems between vehicle platforms. The test was conducted in partnership with Volvo Autonomous Solutions. Different sensor placement, vehicle geometry and control systems distinguish the two trucks, yet the software generalized immediately. "The system generalized without needing anything. You really break the physics of what everyone believed was possible," said Waabi founder and CEO Raquel Urtasun. The breakthrough addresses one of autonomous trucking's most persistent challenges. Volvo Autonomous Solutions President Nils Jaeger said the test demonstrates the scalability of Volvo's platform and validates the strength of the partnership.
