Financial institutions are reshaping hiring priorities around artificial intelligence deployment. Job postings for AI-related roles at major banks surged 49% this year to 139,819 listings. Agent orchestration—the technical skill of designing autonomous systems that collaborate on complex tasks—emerged as the fastest-growing competency, with postings jumping 1,721%. The shift reflects banks' transition from initial AI experimentation toward operational integration across trading floors, compliance departments and back-office functions. Industry experts characterize agent orchestration as Wall Street's most sought-after technical skill. Median base salaries for generative AI managers reached approximately $190,000, outpacing comparable finance technology roles. Banks including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Capital One are prioritizing forward-deployed engineers who embed AI systems directly into business operations rather than pure model-building specialists.
