Walmart's supply chain technology division is leveraging predictive modeling and data analytics to overcome geopolitical tensions and weather-related challenges, according to Indira Uppuluri, senior vice president of supply chain technology.

The retailer's data science teams now access comprehensive weather pattern information and customer purchasing history to generate real-time operational insights, Uppuluri said. This capability represents a significant evolution from traditional predictive models long used across the logistics sector.

Walmart has integrated multiple artificial intelligence platforms and open-source models into its supply chain operations. The company partners with OpenAI and Google to provide role-specific training certifications through its employee platform, Squiggly. The platform also enables staff to develop customized analytical tools for operational needs.

Optimization teams within the company build proprietary tools targeting specific business objectives and supply chain constraints.
