Walmart has launched a 900,000-square-foot automated fulfillment center in Stockton, California, marking its fifth next-generation logistics facility. The center streamlines order processing through advanced systems that compress the traditional 12-step fulfillment process into five steps, substantially reducing manual labor and enabling faster throughput. The facility strengthens Walmart's West Coast distribution network and positions the retailer to deliver items within one to two days to 95% of U.S. customers. The Stockton location will employ more than 1,000 workers at full capacity and support both direct sales and Walmart Fulfillment Services, which handles third-party marketplace merchant orders. The company operates similar automated centers in Joliet, Illinois; McCordsville, Indiana; Greencastle, Pennsylvania; and Lancaster, Texas. E-commerce now represents 23% of Walmart's total sales. A sixth facility covering 1.5 million square feet is planned for Carnesville, Georgia, with construction commencing late this year.
