Wegmans is modernizing its supply chain network with a new refrigerated distribution center in Rochester, New York, designed to handle fresh produce, meat, seafood and prepared foods. The supermarket operator runs 114 stores along the East Coast and is consolidating general merchandise operations at its Pottsville, Pennsylvania warehouse. Wegmans is also relocating its returns center to an upgraded Rochester facility. The current general merchandise distribution center is the company's oldest leased facility and cannot support future expansion. Consolidation efforts in Pottsville are scheduled for spring 2027. The investments aim to reduce dependence on third-party logistics providers while improving store service levels and building supply chain resilience. Construction timelines remain under development. Wegmans pledged no layoffs resulting from the restructuring and will support affected employees through the transition.
