Western Sydney International Opens 24-Hour Cargo Terminal

Western Sydney International Airport's cargo precinct began operations on July 27. The facility can simultaneously accommodate eight wide-body freighters or 16 narrow-body domestic aircraft in its initial phase. Qantas Freight, Menzies Aviation, dnata Cargo, dnata Catering & Retail, and Texel Air are among operators utilizing the precinct. WSI Chief Executive Simon Hickey said the terminal will move approximately 250,000 tonnes annually, significantly expanding Sydney's air cargo capacity. The precinct supports critical industries including fresh meat and seafood, pharmaceuticals, agricultural goods, and electronics exports. Hickey highlighted the facility's role in enabling time-sensitive operations, such as delivering fresh fish from Forster to Singapore within 24 hours or rapidly distributing perishable medicines throughout the Pacific. The project will generate thousands of jobs for Western Sydney workers. WSI is Australia's first major international greenfield airport in more than 50 years.
