A Wisconsin-based trucking company identified and eliminated $53,000 in annual labor costs after using Claude AI to review driver telematics data. Owner Pam Polyak discovered one driver was spending more than 110 minutes per shift on duty without driving while at the terminal — substantially exceeding typical pre-trip and post-trip inspection windows. The analysis, completed in roughly three minutes, revealed the behavior was costing the company significantly since Polyak pays drivers hourly wages. Beyond time-theft detection, the data review uncovered a $50-per-load toll cost discrepancy between two drivers running identical lanes in opposite directions. Polyak, a third-generation trucking owner who took over Polyak Trucking in 2020, said the exercise demonstrates how small carriers can perform sophisticated cost analysis without dedicated back-office staff. She noted the review process can run passively, making it practical for owner-operators who also drive.
