Defense manufacturer Anduril Industries will construct a 2 million-square-foot submarine-component facility at Tradepoint Atlantic, the Port of Baltimore's multimodal logistics hub, in a $3.7 billion investment expected to launch operations in 2030.
The Arsenal-2 project will generate 3,100 permanent jobs at the former Bethlehem Steel shipyard in Sparrows Point, reviving maritime manufacturing at the historic location. The facility will produce components for the Navy's Virginia-class nuclear submarines shipped to Huntington Ingalls in Newport, Virginia, and General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut.
Anduril will initially manufacture smaller components including torpedo tubes before expanding to larger sections such as submarine bows and sterns. Maryland officials characterized the development as the state's largest private investment and biggest job-creation effort in over a decade. The project is projected to support 14,000 total jobs and generate more than $2 billion in annual economic output and approximately $312 million in annual wages.
