APM Terminals signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigerian officials during a prime ministerial visit to Denmark to develop a greenfield container terminal at Badagry, located southwest of Lagos. The deepwater facility would enable larger container vessels to access Nigeria and strengthen the country's position as West Africa's leading gateway port while creating new transhipment opportunities. The project aims to bolster supply chain resilience and expand regional trade options. Badagry would complement three existing Lagos-area terminals: APMT's Apapa Container Terminal, CMA GCM's Lekki Free Port, and the Tin Can Island facility operated jointly by Zim, China Merchants, and Africa Global Logistics. APMT first proposed the facility in 2012, with initial operations targeted for 2016. The project has remained dormant due to security concerns and economic challenges in Nigeria.
