Argentina is positioning itself as a major data center destination as American projects encounter significant community opposition. In the first quarter of 2026, local resistance disrupted at least 75 U.S. data center projects valued at approximately $130 billion, according to industry tracking. Argentine President Javier Milei has courted major technology executives since 2024, establishing tax incentives and streamlined regulatory frameworks to attract investment. OpenAI has committed to developing a roughly 500-megawatt data center in Patagonia with a potential value reaching $25 billion. Poland's Green Capital has already leased land in Chubut for wind and solar installations designed to power regional data centers. U.S.-based FlexDomes is actively seeking investment partners for Patagonia data center projects. The shift reflects Argentina's strategy to capture infrastructure investment as regulatory challenges intensify across North American sites.
