Spartan Carrier Group has shifted from skepticism to implementation, deploying artificial intelligence agents to handle manual dispatch tasks as it pursues growth without expanding headcount. The Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier operates 150 trucks primarily hauling just-in-time automotive freight for Toyota. Its first agent automates hourly customer status reports that previously consumed 7-10 minutes per dispatcher. A second agent targeting driver payroll remains in testing.
Vice President of Operations Kendrick Dawson said the carrier runs 24/7 operations with just four dispatchers. The company uses new tools to double volume without hiring additional staff. Spartan became an early customer of Alvys' Foundry platform, which launched in August and enables carriers to build custom agents within transportation management systems. Dawson emphasized the approach frees dispatchers to develop new skills and advance their roles.
