German, Dutch ports face strike disruptions this week

Seaports across Germany and the Netherlands are preparing for labor stoppages that threaten container operations. German dock workers represented by ver.di rejected a pay proposal from the Central Association of German Seaport Operators, prompting strike action beginning Wednesday evening through Friday. The union called for a warning strike across Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg ports after more than 6,000 employees voted against the employers' latest offer. Dutch port workers are scheduled to join the action Friday. Container terminals in affected regions will halt operations during the strike period, with container deliveries and pickups suspended. Logistics operators including Kuehne + Nagel warned customers to expect delays, cancellations and handling interruptions at terminals. The strike marks the second labor action at German ports in recent weeks, following similar demonstrations on August 18.
