India will not finalize a trade agreement with the United States unless Washington grants preferential tariff rates that favor Indian exporters, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, highlighting a significant obstacle in ongoing bilateral negotiations.
Goyal's statement shows that tariff competitiveness remains central to trade discussions between the two countries. Other trading partners have similarly sought advantageous terms before committing to agreements with Washington.
The talks have extended over a protracted period, with both nations aiming to expand trade ties. Disagreements over tariff rate structures continue to complicate progress toward a final agreement.
