Chief Economist Claudia Sahm of New Century Advisors is urging the Federal Reserve to consider raising interest rates in October, citing mounting inflation pressures that could ripple through the broader economy.
Sahm points to elevated energy costs as a primary concern, warning that price increases in that sector could eventually flow into other consumer goods and services. The economist also flagged potential tariffs on Canadian imports as an additional upside risk to inflation expectations.
These dual pressures create Sahm's case for an October rate hike, according to her analysis.
