Maersk Suspends Transpacific Service Ahead of Golden Week

Maersk is pulling capacity from the transpacific route, suspending its standalone TPX extra loader service effective late September ahead of China's Golden Week holiday period. The final sailing on the service departs Vung Tau on Sept. 29 aboard the 4,200-teu Maersk Boston, with the suspension extending through the remainder of Q4 2026. The TPX service operates seven vessels averaging 4,400 teu across a Busan-Long Beach-Vung Tau rotation. The suspension represents a more than 10% reduction in Maersk's weekly transpacific capacity. Following the closure, the carrier's transpacific offerings will operate solely through the Gemini Cooperation. The Danish carrier said it will provide updates on potential seasonal reinstatement in 2027. The move reflects broader carrier efforts to manage capacity and maintain rate levels amid seasonal demand softening.
