Mexico solidified its position as America's leading trading partner in September 2026, with bilateral commerce reaching $96.3 billion. This reflected a 34% year-over-year surge, significantly outpacing overall U.S. international trade expansion of 21%. Growth was driven by strength in manufactured goods, electronics and transportation equipment. Canada maintained second place at $64.78 billion, while China followed at $41 billion. The U.S. merchandise trade deficit with Mexico climbed to approximately $28.15 billion for the month. Laredo, Texas reclaimed the nation's top trade gateway ranking with $38.63 billion in total international trade, overtaking Chicago O'Hare at $36 billion. The Port of Los Angeles ranked third at $28.31 billion, followed by the Port of Houston at $22.72 billion. Other Texas-Mexico crossings posted double-digit gains, with El Paso's Ysleta-Zaragoza bridge handling $16.23 billion, up 53% annually.
