Musk legal team threatens defamation suit over Gibney documentary

Elon Musk's attorneys have notified filmmaker Alex Gibney and his production company Jigsaw Productions of potential defamation litigation over an upcoming documentary critical of the tech entrepreneur. The legal notice targets claims in the nearly four-hour film regarding SpaceX satellites and election interference. In an exchange documented in the film, Musk told former associate Ashley St. Clair he possessed over 10,000 lasers in space before the November 2024 presidential election. Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro argued the documentary promotes a debunked conspiracy theory linking Starlink satellites to vote manipulation in swing states. Election officials across multiple states, independent cybersecurity researchers and fact-checkers refuted the allegation in November 2024. The documentary is scheduled for release next month.
