Texas, Pennsylvania Lead States in CDL School Shutdowns

The Department of Transportation announced an emergency shutdown of 110 commercial driver training schools this week, with Texas and Pennsylvania identified as having the heaviest impact at 13 facilities each. California followed with 11 schools, Florida with 10 and Utah with nine. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the emergency action Monday in Detroit, citing these schools as major sources of English-language proficiency violations among commercial drivers. These schools account for 5,000 English-language proficiency violations combined. Of 84 physical-location schools identified, Texas, Pennsylvania and California represent 44 percent. When Florida and Utah are included, the five states account for two-thirds of all identified facilities. DOT is separately reviewing 23 additional online training providers with no physical locations. Complete identification of all affected schools remains pending from federal officials.
