Transportation and logistics provider ArcBest lifted its third-quarter outlook for its asset-light segment while maintaining margin expectations for its asset-based operations following August performance.

The asset-based unit, which operates less-than-truckload services, posted 9% year-over-year revenue-per-day growth in August, accelerating from July's 7.7% increase. Tonnage climbed 9% compared with the year-ago period, though yield remained flat when including fuel surcharges.

Shipment weights surged 14% year-over-year in August, reflecting robust industrial demand and constrained trucking supply. Despite a 4% decline in total shipments, revenue per shipment rose 14% year-over-year, driven by heavier loads and fuel recovery mechanisms.

Two-year stacked tonnage comparisons reached cycle highs in August. The Manufacturing PMI remained in expansion territory for an eighth consecutive month in August.
