Spain's Boluda Shipping will acquire Rotterdam-based Samskip in a deal expected to close January 1, 2027, pending regulatory approval. The merger combines Boluda's Southern European and African operations with Samskip's Northern European capabilities across 28 countries. The merged network will operate 32 vessels on 18 routes, supported by 21 maritime terminals, five rail facilities and over 500 owned trucks, projecting annual throughput exceeding 750,000 TEUs. Samskip currently provides US customers with international freight-forwarding and temperature-controlled logistics services, including chilled consolidation offerings from locations such as Los Angeles and Oakland. Rotterdam will serve as the strategic hub for coordinating the combined operations. Samskip Chief Executive Olafur Orri Olafsson continues in his role, with the Samskip brand maintained within the combined entity.
