Cathay Cargo is deploying additional freighter capacity on transpacific routes beginning this month to meet strong demand driven by semiconductor and data-centre equipment shipments from Asia to the Americas. Jonathan Ng, head of cargo hub operations and development, cited sustained summer demand across technology-related cargo as the carrier enters its seasonal peak. The airline aims to balance capacity with current market needs while positioning for further growth. A leased Airbus A330 passenger-to-freighter conversion undergoing completion in Shanghai will support subsidiary Air Hong Kong's regional general cargo operations. Cathay also reported year-over-year volume growth in July powered by semiconductor and lithium battery shipments. The carrier is enhancing specialist handling procedures for high-value tech cargo. It is working with shippers and forwarders to refine safety protocols for emerging product categories including AI chips, server racks, and vibration-sensitive wafer steppers.
