Container spot rates declined this week as capacity constraints loosened and seasonal demand remained soft across major trade lanes. Drewry's World Container Index fell 2% week-on-week on the Shanghai-Rotterdam route, settling at $3,615 per 40ft, while Shanghai-Genoa remained flat at $4,166 per 40ft. Carriers' attempt to implement higher freight-all-kinds pricing at $4,500 for Asia-North Europe and $5,000 for Mediterranean routes failed to gain traction. A second rate push scheduled for November 15 faces headwinds from modest booking levels and plentiful vessel availability, according to European freight forwarders. Soft demand ahead of Chinese New Year is expected to constrain carrier pricing power. The Middle East remains a point of uncertainty for the market outlook.
