Daimler Truck, Volvo and Six Partners Form Coalition to Deploy Hydrogen Trucking Across Europe by 2030

Eight major industrial companies announced a coordinated hydrogen trucking initiative at IAA Transportation in Hanover, pledging to deploy fuel infrastructure and vehicles simultaneously across Europe by 2030, using Germany as a pilot market.

Daimler Truck unveiled its Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 Truck, planning to deploy a small series of 100 units by end-2026, with 50 already sold. The vehicle travels over 1,000 kilometers per tank of liquid hydrogen and carries 1.3 metric tons more cargo than its battery-electric counterpart by eliminating battery weight.

The coalition—including Volvo Group, Toyota, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility and MB Energy—formed to avoid repeating battery-electric deployment mistakes, where charging infrastructure lagged vehicle rollout.

Daimler Truck is investing mid-three-digit millions through 2030. Europe has roughly 6 million trucks that burn about 60 million metric tons of diesel annually.
