Carrier-vetting platform Highway is financially guaranteeing freight movements with up to $100,000 per load lost to fraud when using carriers meeting its standards. The company's chief commercial officer said the program covers the majority of North American carrier capacity, having paid out just once across roughly one million loads. Of approximately 175,000 carriers serving freight brokers, Highway says over 82% qualify for the guarantee tier. The single payout resulted from a California licensing flaw that allowed a fraudulent carrier to slip through before detection. Average cargo theft losses reach $250,000, according to the executive, making the guarantee model attractive to brokers. Highway continuously monitors for ownership changes, inbox compromises and cyber anomalies within its vetting framework to prevent fraud.
