Houston's truckload market reversed sharply, climbing from one of the nation's loosest regions to the second-tightest among 135 tracked markets in under 14 days. Tender rejections surged to 47% as of Tuesday, up nearly 3 percentage points week over week and 6 points annually. Spot rates jumped 37% in the same period while tender volume rose nearly 2%. The Key Market Trend Index hit 6.85, signaling extreme tightening. Nationally, conditions remain fragile despite modest gains. Tender rejections held above 14%, up 1 point month over month. Spot rates climbed to $3.73, up 8% monthly as freight shifted toward rail. Diesel prices reached $6.54 per gallon, adding carrier cost pressures. Houston's outbound-heavy positioning continues pushing rates higher as available capacity tightens on exit lanes heading into peak season.
