Immigration enforcement targets commercial drivers at inspection stations nationwide

Immigration enforcement officials have stepped up operations at truck stops and commercial vehicle inspection checkpoints across multiple states. Two Uzbek nationals were arrested in separate New Jersey enforcement actions on August 23. Zokhid Zakhidov, 37, was taken into custody in Woodbridge while holding a New York commercial learner's permit. His record included a May 15 driving-while-intoxicated conviction in New York. He also faced charges for assault with intent to cause physical injury and harassment dating to January, and Cranbury police arrested him as a fugitive from justice on April 28. Khayrullo Payzullaev, 30, was arrested in Hamilton, New Jersey, where he held a Pennsylvania non-domiciled commercial driver's license. In New Hampshire, officials arrested Satvir Singh, an Indian national and interstate truck driver, on September 11 at a commercial vehicle inspection station in Hillsborough. Singh had entered the country legally in 2017 but subsequently violated his admission terms. Federal authorities announced coordinated enforcement operations involving immigration officers, transportation inspectors and state police at weigh stations nationwide.
