Port Houston's container terminals processed 376,419 TEUs in September, marking an 11% increase from the prior year's 337,659 TEUs. Loaded imports climbed 16% year-over-year to 174,189 TEUs, while loaded exports grew 2% to 132,009 TEUs. Through nine months of 2026, the port handled 3.27 million TEUs. Port CEO Charlie Jenkins attributed the September strength to recovery following a difficult start to the year. Bayport and Barbours Cut container terminals drove growth primarily through import volume, though export activity accelerated late in the month. Port officials expect sustained export momentum into the near term. Port Houston's year-to-date loaded imports reached 1.56 million TEUs, up 6% from 1.47 million TEUs, outpacing national import trends during the traditional peak retail season.
