Container import bookings have settled at levels below the prior two years, while inventory positions have stabilized near post-pandemic efficiency records. The combination suggests logistics managers are operating in one of the tightest inventory environments since 2020, balancing cost pressures against the risk of stockouts heading into the fourth quarter. The Logistics Managers' Index peaked at 60.5 in June before moderating to 52 in August, marking one of the most controlled years on record. This contrasts sharply with 2025, when tariff volatility triggered a summer booking surge followed by autumn declines and the fastest inventory contraction in the index's history. The current steady state reflects improved demand forecasting capabilities, though flat import booking trajectories raise questions about momentum into year-end.
