KLM is centralizing freight handling at its Schiphol warehouse to manage rising volumes without expanding headcount, capitalizing on surging demand from artificial intelligence supply chains and ocean shipping disruptions. The Dutch carrier will process both passenger aircraft and freighter cargo through a single facility, positioning itself to capture additional transfer freight while preparing for a new cargo terminal opening in 2035. The consolidation represents part of Air France-KLM's broader financial restructuring announced today. KLM plans to absorb increased throughput through streamlined workflows, expanded automation, and workforce redeployment. The carrier also intends to develop enhanced customer services for specialized handling requirements, though specifics remain undisclosed. The move reflects industry momentum following discussions at the TIACA Air Cargo Forum in Miami.
