The Labor Department's Office of Inspector General concluded that former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer breached the agency's workplace harassment prohibitions, according to findings released Thursday.
The investigation, initiated after an anonymous complaint, examined allegations that Chavez-DeRemer fostered a hostile work environment. Additional allegations included an inappropriate relationship with a security team member, failure to follow travel rules, and tasking subordinates with personal errands.
Investigators interviewed 53 current and former Labor Department staff members and determined all original complaints held merit, uncovering additional violations in the process. Chavez-DeRemer resigned in April before a scheduled interview with inspectors.
Her attorney stated the report found no legal violations, characterizing her management style as a point of disagreement rather than misconduct.
