Long Beach Port Sets August Record with Nearly 920,000 TEUs

The Port of Long Beach processed 919,992 twenty-foot equivalent units in August, marking its busiest August on record. The figure ranked as the fifth-highest volume in the facility's 115-year history. It represents a 2% increase from August 2025 as shippers continue recalibrating supply-chain operations amid tariff pressures and geopolitical tensions. Imports climbed 6% year-over-year to 456,100 TEUs, while exports grew 4% to 99,754 TEUs. Empty-container movements declined slightly, though stronger laden cargo flows offset the decrease. Through August, Long Beach accumulated 6,678,078 TEUs, reflecting a 6.3% improvement compared to the first eight months of 2025. Port leadership attributed the performance to shipper confidence in the terminal's operational capacity despite an uncertain trade environment shaped by evolving tariff policies and regional geopolitical developments.
