Mexican Hass avocado imports generated $641 million in transportation and warehousing activity during fiscal year 2025-26, supporting more than 4,150 jobs in those sectors alone, according to research from Texas A&M University.
Nearly 98% of Mexican avocados entering the U.S. in 2024 moved by truck through Texas land ports. Pharr handled 58.2% of imports while Laredo accounted for 39%. Once cleared at the border, shipments flow through refrigerated warehouses, distribution centers and processors before reaching retailers nationwide.
The broader economic impact reached $7 billion in total output across multiple industries, supporting 37,163 jobs during the same period. Beyond direct transportation providers, avocado logistics generated spending on fuel, equipment, repairs and related services throughout interconnected supply chains.
