MSC narrowly surpassed the Gemini Cooperation in overall reliability across major east-west container trades during August and September, posting 68.9% against Gemini's 68%, according to vessel performance data.
The result represents a setback for Gemini partners Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, whose combined reliability fell 9.4 percentage points month-on-month to 68%. Despite the alliance slip, Maersk remained the highest-performing individual carrier on the routes.
MSC declined 1.2 percentage points to claim the top spot, though both alliances fell significantly short of Gemini's 90% reliability target.
Performance diverged sharply by trade lane. Gemini achieved 92% on Asia-North Europe and 83% on Asia-Mediterranean routes. However, backhaul services from North America and Europe to Asia proved problematic. Typhoon-related port disruptions in the Far East contributed to this underperformance. The transatlantic lane remained a strength, with Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd posting 98.7% reliability on North America East Coast-Mediterranean services.
