Shippers are rerouting cargo after severe weather disrupted rail freight operations at major UK container terminals. More than one kilometer of track was damaged by storms, forcing suspension of rail services to DP World London Gateway and Forth Ports' Tilbury facilities. DP World said it is operating a reduced rail service and coordinating with Network Rail on repairs. Hapag-Lloyd cautioned customers that inland movements would face delays, urging those with merchant haulage agreements to arrange road transport. The carrier said its inland team would work with customers on alternative solutions for carrier haulage shipments, but warned it cannot accept additional haulage requests during the disruption. The extent to which the trucking sector can absorb displaced rail volumes remains uncertain as repairs continue.
