Nebraska Troopers Recover $250K in Stolen Speakers, Driver Flees

Nebraska State Patrol discovered $250,000 in stolen commercial speakers during a truck stop inspection in September. Troopers located the semi after receiving an alert about suspected freight moving through the state. Officers found fraudulent delivery paperwork upon initial contact with the driver. Investigators obtained a search warrant before opening the cargo area. The trailer contained merchandise from two separate theft incidents in Illinois and New York. Miscellaneous items intended for Walmart distribution centers in Florida occupied one side of the trailer. High-end sound equipment bound for Las Vegas filled the remaining space. The driver, identified as Ashwani Kumar through a New Jersey commercial driver's license, fled after authorities placed him out of service. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued. As of late Tuesday, Kumar remained at large and no arrest had been made. Investigators continue working the case but have withheld additional details regarding the false paperwork and carrier information.
