Shell and FAW Trucks have jointly developed and tested an immersion-cooled battery pack designed to enhance performance and durability in commercial vehicles. The system uses an electrically insulating fluid surrounding battery cells to dissipate heat more effectively during operation. Initial validation testing demonstrated significant gains: maximum gradability improved by up to 98%, vehicle-level energy efficiency rose 0.8%, and potential battery life extension reached 32%. The technology addresses thermal management challenges specific to commercial trucks operating under high-demand conditions including acceleration, heavy loads, and charging. Testing results were verified by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. Both companies continue validation work toward integration in future FAW hybrid truck models.
