Carrier access to flexible trailer capacity is disappearing faster than fleets realize, according to Ed Behnen, Senior Vice President of Sales at Premier Trailer Leasing. A series of overlapping market pressures since spring have compressed utilization in the equipment leasing sector in ways the market has yet to fully price in. These pressures include CDL supply dynamics following the Montgomery Supreme Court ruling, inspection week, Prime Day activity, and the World Cup's multiple host cities coinciding with July 4th. The cumulative effect has tightened market conditions beyond what headline numbers suggest. As equipment turns over rapidly between fleets, asset visibility and custody tracking have emerged as distinct operational risks. Behnen emphasizes that carriers must prioritize due diligence and maintain proper paperwork in order. Credit availability alongside trailer scarcity now represents a compounding challenge for operators in an increasingly constrained market.
