British transport and logistics operators gained reprieve from the government's latest budget announcement. The decision preserved the 5p-per-litre fuel duty reduction and shelved planned increases set for January and March. Warehouse rates also remained frozen, providing relief to an industry facing cost pressures. Logistics UK chief executive Ben Fletcher called the move prudent, noting it would support trade continuity amid global economic uncertainty. Road Haulage Association managing director Richard Smith agreed, characterizing the freeze as essential. Hauliers nonetheless remain under severe strain. Members reported additional fuel costs of £385 weekly, with 85% citing compressed margins. Industry leaders warned that businesses continue facing cost pressures without sustained support.
