U.S. durable goods orders surged in September, marking the largest monthly increase in five months. Manufacturers reported stronger demand for aircraft and business equipment, signaling renewed momentum in the industrial sector. Aircraft orders drove much of the gain, with Boeing reporting its 777 freighter fleet now exceeds 330 aircraft in global operation, making it the world's most widely deployed cargo aircraft. The expansion comes as tariff adjustments take effect, with certain packaging materials and plywood products exempted from duties effective Oct. 30, potentially easing input costs for manufacturers. Container shipping reliability remains competitive, with MSC maintaining an edge in east-west trades at 68.9% on-time performance through September.
