Walmart has agreed to significantly expand its long-standing partnership with Symbiotic Inc., committing approximately $6 billion over several years to deploy advanced warehouse automation equipment across its distribution network. The retailer, which has utilized Symbiotic's technology for a decade, plans to install high-density automated storage systems, smart pallet-building solutions and partial case fulfillment capabilities at multiple regional facilities. The investment aims to enhance e-commerce operations, increase storage capacity and streamline product flow throughout Walmart's supply chain. Rob Montgomery, executive vice president for Walmart U.S., stated the expansion supports the company's goal of expanding inventory assortment, accelerating delivery speeds and ensuring consistent replenishment. The automation initiative enables Walmart to serve customers across all channels—including retail locations, curbside pickup and home delivery. It will also simplify operations for associates and reduce operational costs.
