Walmart and Zipline announced a significant expansion of their drone delivery partnership, with Zipline operating from 300 new store locations nationwide. Zipline, the world's largest drone delivery provider by flight miles, secured $1.5 billion in funding to expand U.S. manufacturing and increase hiring to meet demand for rapid aerial fulfillment.
The partners plan to deploy drone service from more than 270 locations across nearly 20 metro areas, including Seattle and Denver, by 2027. Walmart has completed over 2 million drone deliveries since partnering with Zipline in 2021, with packages arriving in as little as 30 minutes.
Walmart also uses Alphabet's Wing drone delivery service at select locations. The company previously launched Wing drone delivery in Central Florida, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and West Memphis, Arkansas. Major retailers are racing to build same-day and one-hour delivery networks as customer demand for speed accelerates.
